Hull Games Con Weekend pt 1 – Fun at the BIG Draw/Character Design Table @ Platform 2012

So, Platform 2012 has been and gone…

…making the pages of the Hull Daily Mail in the process (click to enlarge).

Two days, talking to games fans and parents of games fans and even some of the visiting developers… Great Fun!!! If exhausting…

Representing the Creative Team for RabbitHeart as well as the Games Design BA Hons Degree at HSAD, Paul Starkey and I saw a massive number of young (and some not so young) people (many of them prospective students further down the road) join us at our tables…

…many of them contributing to our Big DRAWing

The video below shows roughly the content of this and last years doodles and sketchesThis years contributions start at the point where the larger colour figures occur…

People just wandered up to check out the drawings and then found themselves sitting down and drawing…

Student Charly Marritt, budding Games Designer Darren Dues, William Taylor and Charlotte Warsap (who you may have seen in the Katniss Everdeen costume, with her bow and quiver of arrows) and her sister were some of the early contributors to this years drawing…

Along with Ethan Douglas (below) who drew his Richard Volk character for us…

Some of the hard-working, Rabbid-Eared volunteers stopped by to take a breather too…

Many of the younger visitors always seem to drift back and do some more, as if they feel they are contributing to the event (which they are) rather than just passing through it…

It’s also a bit of a chill out space… when the gamer-kill-frenzy-fatigue had set in, many people drifted back to us to relax with a bit of doodling.

Some of my favourite bits from this year were probably these…

…and these.

Love the image at the bottom right, kinda like a proto-Hectic PlanetEvan Dorkin design…

Can’t wait until next year to do it all over again…

Find the video from last year here…

All that and the VFX The Next Generation Conference at the ICA in London (more on that later).

Now to gear up and start pulling something together for http://thoughtbubblefestival.com/
